So here we are in a New Year…..2014.
I actually like the look of this number it just feels and sounds like the makings of a great year. Generally at the start of a new year I start to think about what I want to accomplish and see happen in the year ahead. I find when I do this I can get overwhelmed, filled with fear, and literally freak myself out. I have decided to go another way.
Which is this.
Imagine myself (or yourself – come play along with me) 10 years ago. 2004.
Where were you?
What were you doing?
Who were you with?
What were you going through?
For me it was some of the darkest days of my life.
Drinking WAY too much. Not caring what I put in my body. In a marriage that was on the brink. I had forgotten who I was.
2004 was a rock bottom year for me. I would have another rock bottom year in 2006 and 2012.
Painful years. Dreadful moments.
And yet today, I can look back and say it was all worth it. I’d never want to go through all that again, but I am glad that I did. I know that no matter what’s next, I can face it, I can overcome it, and I can emerge victorious.
So as we start 2014, here’s my thought for you.
Look back over the last 10 years of your life. Make a list of the worst things that happened to you. Look at your fears. Your sadness. Your rock bottoms.
Then realize that even though you went through ALL OF THAT, you made it to today. Use this as evidence of how strong you are!
Why? Because when you look back at your life 10 years from now, you will feel the same way then and this is… that no matter what happened… you made it!
So get busy making mistakes, taking risks, and diving in.
