I changed my life with these 4 agreements

I don’t know about you but I was not given the instruction manual at birth on how to live the life of my dreams. I was not taught how to be free of all my crazy thoughts of who I should be, how I should be, and who I need to please. Therefore I have always been a seeker of information (books, people, ideas) that help me and guide me to live a more joyful and peaceful life. I believe it takes a village to help me do this.

One of the resources that I continually go to is the amazingly simple yet powerful book called “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. I love this book so much that I give it to all my clients as a code of conduct that can help transform their lives. In this book Don Miguel reveals the source of what can truly rob us of joy and create needless suffering (something I don’t want!).

The Four Agreements offers many great lessons (4 to be exact) that have helped me remember what is important; that I am the designer of my own dream. I have the power to create a life that is not filled with fear. How exciting!!!

THE FOUR AGREEMENTS

1) Be Impeccable With Your Word:

Speak with Integrity.

Say only what you mean.

Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or gossip about others.

Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2) Don’t Take Anything Personally:

Nothing others do is because of you.

What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream.

When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3) Don’t Make Assumptions:

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.

Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama.

With this ONE agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4) Always Do Your Best:

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick.

Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

This is just a small sampling of goodness that comes from this book. I encourage everyone to pick this little book up, if you want to learn some great ways to enjoy your lives and not suffer through them.
